X-Gal is a cell permeable, chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase. It contains of galactose related to a substituted in dole. β-galactosidase hydrolyzes X-gal to release an insoluble, bright blue precipitate. X-Gal provided by Yekta Tajhiz Azma is commonly used in molecular biology cloning applications to detect the activity of β-galactosidase.It is frequently used with IPTG in blue/white screening for bacterial colony selection in which X-Gal provides a visual indication of the cellular expression of β-galactosidase.
X-Gal is a highly pure molecular biology grade chemical product for colorimetric detection of b-galactosidase activity. Researchers often use it for “blue/white screening” of bacterial colonies to differ bacterial or phage clones after transformation.
Application:
Detection of beta-galactosidase activity
checking the expression of beta-galactosidase
Blue-white screening by X-GAL
