Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is a monomeric protein derived from bovine blood and its main biological function is to regulate the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. BSA is a small and stable protein which commonly used as a protein concentration standard in laboratory experiments. BSA has numerous other biochemical applications such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunocytochemistry (ICC), ELISAs and Western blotting. Used as a blocking non-specific binding of antibodies. Bovine Serum Albumin can also be used as a protein concentration standard for protein quantification. Additionally, BSA can be used as a stabilizer and as a nutrient to support cell and microbial growth in culture media
