Trehalose dihydrate
Trehalose is a natural non-reducing disaccharide composed of two glucose molecules. The unique structure provides exceptional stability, rendering trehalose useful in research studying its protective properties in various organisms. trehalose serves as a carbohydrate reserve in organisms and protects them from adverse conditions, such as heat, cold, dehydration, desiccation, and oxidation. Scientists also utilize trehalose dihydrate to explore its potential in mitigating protein aggregation and studying its effect on protein folding. Trehalose is also recognized as a potent enhancer for DNA/RNA amplification technologies, including PCR, and can stimulate activity of certain enzymes at higher temperatures. The unique characteristics of trehalose have lead to its use in a wide array of applications in fields of molecular biology, to pharmacology, to food. Researchers exploit trehalose dihydrate′s stabilizing effect in the preservation of biological samples, enzymes, and even vaccines and has diverse commercial applications
